    The Gordon F. Henderson Award for the Best Factum Writers is named for Gordon Fripp Henderson, C.C., B.A., LL.D., Q.C. (1912-1993). The award recognizes the importance of exceptional written advocacy.

    Gordon Henderson was the leader of the Canadian intellectual property bar for many years. He joined the law firm Henderson & Herridge in 1937, where he worked with Gordon Gowling; he later became the firm’s chairman. He was the founding editor of the Canadian Patent Reporter and was instrumental in the foundation of the Canadian Law Information Council. In 1977, Gordon Henderson was made an Officer of the Order of Canada and was promoted to Companion in 1988. He received honorary doctorates from the University of Ottawa, Carleton University and the Law Society of Upper Canada. He also served as Honorary Consul to Liberia in Canada, a position that brought diplomatic privileges.
